Lucía Planchón

Born in Uruguay, Lucia Planchon moved to the United States with her family when she was eight years old. After ten years in New Jersey, the family moved to North Carolina for access to affordable higher education. Lucia started her degree in Spanish Education at NC State University and later completed a Master’s in Hispanic Linguistics, while working part time at a child care center and taking care of children on the weekends. This mix in specialties created the perfect opportunity for working in Parenting Education after college. Lucia actively facilitated sessions with Hispanic and Latinx families in Johnston County. Eventually, her work evolved to include family engagement efforts and community outreach coordination at a federal nonprofit organization. Her journey with Juntos began four years after graduating from NC State, and she is so excited to be back, especially knowing that she will continue to work with the Hispanic population while helping parents and students navigate through the complexities of higher education readiness.

Nacida en Uruguay, Lucía Planchón y su familia se mudaron a los EEUU cuando ella tenía ocho años. Después de vivir diez años en Nueva Jersey, la familia se mudó a Carolina del Norte para que los niños tengan mejor acceso a la educación superior. Lucía empezó su carrera universitaria estudiando para ser maestra de español y después completó una maestría en lingüística hispánica, mientras trabajaba en una guardería y cuidaba de niños los fines de semana. Lucía facilitó clases con las familias hispanas y latinx en el condado de Johnston. eventualmente, su trabajo evolucionó a incluir esfuerzos de participación familiar y coordinación de alcance comunitario en una organización sin fines de lucro federal. Su aventura con Juntos empezó cuatro años después de recibirse de NC State, y está muy emocionada al poder volver, especialmente al saber que va a continuar trabajando con la población hispana mientras ayuda a los padres y estudiantes a navegar las complejidades del aprontamiento para la educación superior.
